meet the therapist : Amy Brandt

Hi there! I’m Amy. I love adventures and nature is my happy place. I love to run, ski, hike, picnic and really do anything outside in the pacific northwest. Ooh and I love ice cream and coffee and prefer to consume both with dear friends. I have a deep need to create beauty wherever I am and mostly do this by cooking, painting, playing music and gardening. I have traveled a lot in my life and look forward to more travel as my boys grow up. I live north of Bellingham in the most beautiful patch of woods with my husband, our two boys and a yellow lab named Boone.

My life has been filled with immense challenges and great joys. I have experienced anxiety, a lovely but complicated family, and have lived with chronic health issues. I have learned to live with the beauty of life as well as the pain. I know the elation of starting a family and the unsuspected difficulties of being a parent. My life is full of beauty and ash.

I have a passion for sitting with others in the dreary and pain-filled moments in life because I’ve been there too. I believe that in counseling we can process the pieces of our stories that are broken and learn tools that can move us to a place of growth and abundant hope. We can move from Ash to Bloom. Let’s start the journey together!

Things that inform my work: I believe that human beings are complex and beautiful. I see our body, mind and soul as integrated and integral parts of us. In order for our minds to be healthy, our bodies and souls have to be as well. I bring this holistic lens with me into my work.

I believe that my clients are wise and capable of change. I look to my clients as the experts of their stories and feel privileged to be curious with them and challenge them. My goal with all my clients is to make a personal and detailed treatment plan, to process trauma and teach tools to enable you to be a healthier and more integrated version of yourself.

I am fascinated with the brain and our body’s ability to heal, change and grow. I am currently working on a certification in mindfulness practices and neurobiology.

Theories that I often use in my work are: Family systems, Narrative therapy, Somatic therapies and Mindfulness.

I have a Masters of Science Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University and have been practicing since 2009.
